Make-up days for snow closures announced
Due to inclement weather, Salem-Keizer students have missed four full school days, had one early release and one late start this school year.
Time at school is essential to student success. To make up for some lost instructional time, the district has decided to make changes to the school calendar.
Three school days have been added to the calendar:
- Thursday, March 23, 2017, will be a school day for all students. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place after school and in the evening.
- Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16, 2017, will be school days for all students except graduating seniors. High schools will develop a revised schedule for second semester finals.
Dates of high school graduation ceremonies will not change.
Please be aware that additional calendar changes could be made if there is more inclement weather.
The School Board’s Safe & Welcoming Schools Resolution affirms that our schools are a place for all to feel welcome and that any form of discrimination, hazing, harassment, intimidation, bullying; cyberbullying, or menacing of students will not be tolerated. To see further information please click on the attachments listed below.
Our after school activity bus runs Monday through Thursday. Buses will be available at 4:30 to students participating in our After school Enrichment Program, 7th Period or Athletics. See attachment for bus stops.
Winter session for Stephens after school Enrichment Academy starts Monday, January 9th. Signups are happening now in the main office. Cost for participation is $40.00. Click below to download a registration form.
Annual State Testing
Each year, students in grades three through eight and grade 11 take state tests in English language arts and math. Students in grades five, eight and in high school also take a state science test. The tests measure students’ knowledge of state standards and give the state information about how schools are performing. Information from the Oregon Department of Education regarding parents’ right to opt students out of some state testing is available online. Click here to see ODE’s flyer:
The federal law allows parents to request information on the qualifications of their child’s teacher, such as education level, teaching license and experience. To request a teacher’s qualifications, simply contact the main office.
This fall, parents of Salem-Keizer students have a new, convenient option for paying student fees.
Through the Online Payment Portal, parents can use a credit card to pay athletic fees, library book fees, purchase ASB cards, make a donation, and take care of other payment transactions. The Online Payment portal processing fee is the same as the fee charged when making a credit card payment in the school office (2.75 percent).
The Online Payment Portal does not replace the food service payment system, EZSchoolPay.
Find a link to the Online Payment Portal on our school website, or visit https://skpay.salkeiz.k12.or.us.
