8th grade parents,
We have begun planning the 8th grade promotion celebration. Following the recognition and awards program on June 16th at 6:30PM at McKay High School, the 8th grade parents will be sponsoring a party from 7:30 – 9:00PM.
We will be having our next meeting in our school’s library @ 6:00 on March 14th.
We are in need of the following help:
- Volunteer to decorate/set-up before the event from 1PM to 4:30PM on June 16th at McKay High School.
- Collect donations from businesses to be used as prizes.
- Request food donations of pizza, soda, and cake from area business.
- Chaperone the dance (must complete a background check prior to the dance).
- Clean up after the dance. If you are picking up your student and can spare a few minutes that would be great.
Please contact the school at 503-399-3442 if you would like to volunteer.
If your student will be missing school before or after Spring Break, make sure you notify the attendance office PRIOR to vacation. Reminder: Absences must be reported within 3 days of absence to be excused. Thank you for helping attendance run smoothly.
Sports Registration Packets are available in the office for the 2017 Track Season. Track is open to all grades, 6-8. Cost is $45.00. 7th and 8th grade students must have a current physical on file. Deadline to sign up is March 23, 2017.
Track practice will begin after school on Tuesday, April 4th.
Stop by the office, or email Coach Arndt at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Spring Conferences are just around the corner! March 22nd and 23rd there will be a full day of school, with conferences in the evening from 4:30 pm-7:00 pm. There will be no school on March 24th. Please watch the mail for your scheduled time.
Yearbooks can be purchased for $15 up until Spring Break. After Spring Break the cost for a yearbook will be $20. Be sure to take advantage of this savings by having your student purchase a yearbook in the office while prices are still low and while supplies last.
Middle and high school students who want to attend a school other than their assigned school next fall (2017-18) must apply for in-district transfer (IDT) between March 1 and March 31, 2017.
IDT applications received after March 31, 2017, will not be considered.
IDT request forms can be picked up at any school office, and must be completed and returned to the student’s assigned school during the application date window. There is no guarantee a transfer request will be approved. Students attending school on an IDT are not eligible for bus transportation.
More information on the in-district transfer process can be found on the Student Transfers page on the district website, http://www.salemkeizer.org/parents/studenttransfers.
Congratulations to those students who achieved a 3.50 or higher GPA on their first semester report card! Click on the link below to see the list of kids.
Make-up days for snow closures announced
Due to inclement weather, Salem-Keizer students have missed four full school days, had one early release and one late start this school year.
Time at school is essential to student success. To make up for some lost instructional time, the district has decided to make changes to the school calendar.
Three school days have been added to the calendar:
- Thursday, March 23, 2017, will be a school day for all students. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place after school and in the evening.
- Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16, 2017, will be school days for all students except graduating seniors. High schools will develop a revised schedule for second semester finals.
Dates of high school graduation ceremonies will not change.
Please be aware that additional calendar changes could be made if there is more inclement weather.
The School Board’s Safe & Welcoming Schools Resolution affirms that our schools are a place for all to feel welcome and that any form of discrimination, hazing, harassment, intimidation, bullying; cyberbullying, or menacing of students will not be tolerated.
