McKay Summer Transition Program

Class of 2021

McKay is offering summer classes to incoming 9th graders starting Monday, June 26th and running through July 21st.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Applications can be picked up in the main office at Stephens and need to be returned by Friday, May 12th.

Students will earn .5 English credit and .5 Elective credit

Incoming 6th Grade Open House – May 10th

Stephens invites our incoming 6th graders and parents to our open house held on May 10th from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. This will be a chance to meet our principal Mrs. Madland, tour the school and meet 6th grade teachers. Lots of exciting activities planned. Come see what it’s like to be a bulldog!

8th Grade Panoramic Picture – May 5th

Our 8th grade panoramic photo will take place on Friday, May 5th.

Pictures are $22.00 for a laminated 10 x 24 photo or $15.00 for non laminated.

Your student should have received an order form in their advisory class, more forms available in the main office.

8th Grade Year End Celebration

8th GRADE PROMOTION:  Family members and friends are invited to attend a promotion ceremony in honor of our 8th grade students.  This is not a formal event.  Appropriate dress includes slacks and collared shirts for boys, modest dresses or skirts for girls.  For guidance, please refer to the district dress code in the student handbook. Students must attend entire day at school in order to participate in this evening’s event.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

 

 8th GRADE DANCE:  Following the promotion ceremony, students meeting the eligibility requirements are invited to a dance.  This dance will be held in the upper gym at McKay High School and is for 8th grade students only. Parents please plan on leaving after the promotion ceremony and returning after the dance to pick up your child. We are asking parents of 8th graders to each contribute $5.00 to cover the cost of the party. This is a voluntary donation, but would assist in the success of the evening’s event. You can send the money in with your student to the main office.\

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:  Policy states students will not be able to attend promotion if they meet either of these conditions:

  • Cannot receive two (2) or more failing grades on BOTH semester 1 and semester 2 report cards.
  • Cannot receive three (3) or more failing grades on semester 2 report card.

 

Annual SBAC Testing

State testing began this week and will continue through the end of May.

We are asking for your help in order to support your child’s success on these state tests.  Please make sure your son or daughter is in school during the days his or her class is scheduled for testing.  Also, make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before and breakfast the days of testing.

For some students, SBAC testing can be a stressful time.  These tests are important because they allow students to demonstrate where they are at in terms of meeting state standards and how they have grown academically throughout the year.  If your son or daughter is feeling anxious during SBAC, encourage them to try their best!

If at all possible, please try not to schedule appointments during these times. You can check ParentVUE for your student’s schedule to see when they have the tested classes during the day. We cannot interrupt classes during testing, so please plan accordingly. The testing schedule is listed below

Order Your Yearbook Now!

Yearbooks can be purchased in the main office for $20.00. Yearbooks will be handed out on the last day of school to those students who have pre-ordered.

Snow Day Make Up Plan

Make-up days for snow closures announced

Due to inclement weather, Salem-Keizer students have missed four full school days, had one early release and one late start this school year.

Time at school is essential to student success. To make up for some lost instructional time, the district has decided to make changes to the school calendar.

Three school days have been added to the calendar:

  • Thursday, March 23, 2017, will be a school day for all students. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place after school and in the evening.
  • Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16, 2017, will be school days for all students except graduating seniors. High schools will develop a revised schedule for second semester finals.

Dates of high school graduation ceremonies will not change.

Please be aware that additional calendar changes could be made if there is more inclement weather.
