Annual State Testing Notice:
Each year, students in grades three through eight and grade 11 take state tests in English language arts and math. Students in grades five, eight and in high school also take a state science test. The tests measure students’ knowledge of state standards and give the state information about how schools are performing. Information from the Oregon Department of Education regarding parents’ right to opt students out of some state testing is available online.
The Goal of Power Hour: Power Hour is a mandatory, teacher-assigned after school program where students complete missing homework in a distraction-free, excuse-free, and supportive environment. Students are also welcome to come on their own to get help with classwork. Just come to the library after school to join us.
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in the library or teacher classrooms.
How do parents know their child has been assigned: An automated phone message and email is sent out to parents the day before the student is assigned. Students are also notified in person by the teacher in class that they will be staying after school for Power Hour.
How do students get home after Power Hour: Students can walk, get a ride from parents, or ride the “Activity Bus” home at 4:30. If they ride the Activity Bus home, they will be assigned to one of the SKEF program activities and also get a snack before the bus leaves at 4:30.
What should parents do if the student cannot attend? Parents should call the school the day after being notified if their student cannot stay after school for Power Hour. The school phone number is 503-399-3442. Also, please tell us what day your student can stay and we will reschedule it.
